Ford & Slater apprentice takes home silver prize at WorldSkills 2020

Leicester Ford & Slater apprentice, Jacob Bell, has taken home the silver prize in this year’s WorldSkills.

Competing in the Heavy Vehicle Technology category which is held in conjunction with The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), Jacob was assessed on his skills, knowledge, and abilities through a range of virtual tasks and tests.

The competition was originally scheduled to take place live at the NEC in Birmingham but was sadly cancelled due to Coronavirus. Unsure on whether to continue the competition, Richard Hutchins, IMI Skills Competition Manager explained: “We felt we needed to finish the competition journey for all the 2020 competitors – so the show had to go on!”

Lee Sursham, Ford & Slater’s Group Apprenticeship Manager, commented on Jacob’s success: “Everyone at Ford & Slater would like to congratulate Jacob on his podium place at this year’s World Skills Final. A fantastic way to conclude an apprenticeship that has seen him overcome many challenges - he should be very proud”

A huge congratulations to Jacob and all our Ford & Slater apprentices who took part.
